All the steps to this how-to are performed on a Windows PC using Microsoft 365. However, the steps are compatible with PowerPoint 2007 or higher.
How to ungroup SVG files in PowerPoint
When we finished our previous lesson, we left the SVG image inside PPT. So, we will continue from there. Keep in mind, these steps can be performed on regular PPT shapes too.
By the way, the keyboard shortcut to ungroup an object in PPT is Ctrl + Shift + G. So, you have the answer before we even start.
Steps to ungroup SVG file into PowerPoint
Follow the steps below to break apart a vector image infor PPT.
- Select the object you want to ungroup
- From the menu, select Graphics Format
- Within the Arrange group, click Group
- In the Group pull-down menu, select Ungroup
As a result, a dialog box opens and asks you to confirm if you want to continue ungrouping the SVG. This prompt generally opens for vector-based images.
- Click Yes to ungroup your object
Finally, your object is ungroup and each piece is now a drawing object in PPT, as shown below. Meaning, you can colorize, resize, rotate, and do just about anything you would do with a PPT object.
Quicker method
You already know about the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + G, mentioned above. However, you can also ungroup through the shortcut menu. Simply right-click on the image, select Group from the shortcut menu, and click Ungroup from the submenu.
If you do not have a right mouse button, then press Shift + F10 to display a shortcut menu on a selection.
